Optic Nerve Injury-01
Adulraheem is a 47-year-old male from Saudi Arabia. In September 2022, after consuming three glasses of alcohol, he experienced dizziness and his vision gradually deteriorated. Within about a week, he could only see in black and white and perceive object outlines. At a local hospital, he received intravenous injections of steroids for six days, which allowed him to perceive human outlines but not tolerate light.
In January 2023, he underwent stem cell transplantation and intraocular injections in Turkey, with injections behind the eyes once daily. There was some improvement after completing the treatment in January, although not significant. Subsequent follow-ups three months later indicated low chances of recovery. He has a history of diabetes since 2013, and his weight decreased from 79kg to 72kg. He experiences burning sensations in his toes due to diabetic neuropathy, with more pain in the left dorsal foot compared to the right, along with shoulder, back, and waist pain.
Adulraheem's wife was diagnosed with breast cancer in August 2022 and subsequently underwent surgery. Due to hormonal medications, she gained weight and experiences knee joint pain.
Following a referral from a friend, Adulraheem sought treatment at BIOOCUS after consulting. He arrived in China on September 11, 2023, and had an initial consultation with doctors at Lu Daopei Hospital in Beijing on September 12. A treatment plan was then provided:
First, a comprehensive physical examination was conducted to assess his overall condition, followed by ophthalmic examinations at an eye hospital. After the examination results were obtained, treatment was administered for 2-3 weeks, including two injections of MSC (mesenchymal stem cells) behind the eyeball into the retina, 14 days of consecutive muscle injections of nerve growth factor, and two intravenous infusions of stem cells.
Adulraheem underwent a full body examination on September 13 and OCT (optical coherence tomography) for his eyes. From September 14 to 28, he received 14 days of consecutive muscle injections of nerve growth factor. On September 18, he received four units of stem cells via intravenous infusion, and on September 19, he received two units of stem cells via expert ophthalmic injections. On September 25, he received three units of stem cells via intravenous infusion, followed by two units of stem cells via expert ophthalmic injections on September 26. After completing all treatments on September 28, a full examination showed significant improvement in his eyes, with noticeable reduction in macular edema. He returned home on October
