BIOOCUS Medical Group's Technology Transfer Enables Pakistan's First Anti-CD19 CAR-T Therapy, Achieving MRD-Negative Remission in Relapsed/Refractory B-ALL
Pakistan has reached a landmark milestone in cellular Immunotherapy with the country's first-ever specialized CAR-T cell therapy, made possible through a technology transfer partnership with BIOOCUS Medical Group. The treatment was administered at the Armed Forces Bone Marrow Transplant Centre in Rawalpindi, marking the introduction of an advanced, potentially curative cellular therapy platform that had previously been unavailable nationwide.
The recipient was a 21-year-old patient with relapsed/refractory B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (R/R B-ALL) who had relapsed twice on prior lines of treatment, leaving conventional therapeutic options exhausted. On June 18, 2026, the patient received an indigenously prepared anti-CD19 CAR-T cell infusion, produced locally in Pakistan using technology and process know-how transferred from BIOOCUS. By Day +14, the patient achieved a measurable residual disease (MRD)-negative complete remission, and was discharged in good condition on July 3, 2026.
This outcome represents more than an individual clinical success—it signals the establishment of a functioning CAR-T manufacturing and treatment capability within Pakistan itself, reducing the need for patients with relapsed or refractory hematologic malignancies to seek advanced cellular therapy abroad. For patients who have exhausted conventional treatment avenues, indigenous access to CAR-T therapy offers a critical new option that is otherwise limited to a small number of centers worldwide.
